It’s finally started! If you’re like me and you’ve been waiting impatiently for the start of “Star Trek 2,” you’re in luck, because the principal photography has started!

According to Paramount’s press release posted on latino-review.com, the principal photography began last Thursday, true to J.J. Abrams’ word.

The film will be released May 17, 2013 in 3D and will see the return of the original cast members to the reboot–Chris Pine, John Cho, Bruce Greenwood, Simon Pegg, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, and Anton Yelchin.

Joining the crew are newcomers Benedict Cumberbatch, Alice Eve and Peter Weller. Also, as reported on ShockYa, Nazneen Contractor, Joseph Gatt and Noel Clarke are also newcomers to the cast. The script for the film has been written by Alex Kurtzman, Robert Orci and Damon Lindelof. I think it’s time to get excited: Any way you slice it, this film has got a good cast, and all signs are pointing to this being a great film.
