Joseph Gordon-Levitt has been comparing ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ to his previous independent films that helped launch his career. In an interview with Comic Book Movie, the actor also pointed out that the superhero movie’s director, producer and co-writer, Christopher Nolan, started his career with such films as ‘Momento’ and ‘Following,’ and his second Batman sequel “has that same independent spirit.” Gordon-Levitt added “that’s what people love about it; he’s able to take that sensibility and that care and love for his work, and do it on a really large scale.”
The two first worked together in the critically acclaimed 2010 sci-fi action movie ‘Inception,’ after Gordon-Levitt replaced James Franco for the role of Arthur. He said he wonders how his career would have been different if he hadn’t been cast in the film. But he added he was glad he was, because he and Nolan “very much see eye-to-eye.”
There has been speculation on ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ having Occupy Wall Street themes. In the trailer, Anne Hathaway’s Catwoman whispers in Batman’s ear “you and your friends better batten down the hatches because when it hits, you’re all going to wonder how you ever thought you could live so large and leave so little for the rest of us.” Gordon-Levitt suggested the rumors are true, as “the trailer isn’t misleading and Nolan’s not the type of guy to create a trailer that will sell you something other than what the movie is.”
Gordon-Levitt also praised his ‘(500) Days of Summer’ director, Marc Webb, who’s now helming ‘The Amazing Spider-Man.’ The actor said he connected with the filmmaker, and he “can’t f***ing wait to see what he’ll do with that.”
There have also been reports that Gordon-Levitt will appear in Quentin Tarantino’s ‘Django Unchained.’ The actor said he really wants to do the western movie, as Tarantino has always been one of his favorite directors. After the two met, Gordon-Levitt said “he’s exactly who I wanted him to be…he’s so enthusiastic (and) good-natured.”
