The last “Hangover” film didn’t get a great critical review–in fact, it was all but panned by critics. Usually, the general audience can give a film a bit of a pass, but audiences hated this film, too. So why is another “Hangover” getting made? Probably because of huge box-office returns. That can only be the reason why another installment is being made.
Due to the fact that “The Hangover” franchise is a big money maker, the stars of the film–Ed Helms, Bradley Cooper and Zach Galifianakis–are vying for more money for their time and energy. According to Slash Film, the actors are wanting $15 million each. The article sites The Hollywood Reporter, which states that the group are likely to get what they are looking to receive. Compared to the last two films, this is a steep raise; according to Slash Film, the actors made less than $1 million each in the first “Hangover” and $5 million each for the sequel, not counting bonuses. For the amount of money the films make, this is like paying them peanuts.
The actors do have a lot of leverage to ask for more money–the last film made $581 million, which more than allows the cast to ask for a mere $15 million. But the big mystery is why are they going back to “The Hangover” at all? The sequel’s seemed to burn some bridges with the audience, since it was exactly the same thing as the first one. People surely aren’t going to expect anything new in a third film.
