I think a lot of people immediately thought that the plots of “The Hunger Games” and “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2” would be like cookies and milk–they go well together. One girl, two guys, insurmountable odds. Lionsgate seems like they thought the same thing, since they will have the trailer for “Breaking Dawn-Part Two” playing before the film.
According to the LA Times, the trailer’s debut is exclusive to “The Hunger Games.” Even though the two plots of the films have similarities, one of the biggest reasons the trailer is attached to the film is the relationship between Lionsgate and Summit Entertainment. According to the article, Summit is a new subsidiary of Lionsgate.
Lionsgate is probably patting itself on the back for having not one, but two big tween/teenage movie franchises in their studio wheelhouse, but according to the article, “The Hunger Games” is still a big risk for the studio. The studio spent almost $100 million just to make the film. According to the article, this budget makes “The Hunger Games” Lionsgate’s biggest film budget thus far. However, the film is expected to turn out beaucoup returns at the box office while giving “Breaking Dawn-Part Two” a more-than-solid lead-in.
