Syfy Films has secured the distribution rights to the supernatural found footage movie ‘The Paranormalists,’ according to The Hollywood Reporter. The studio picked up the rights to the film after filmmaker Rob Letterman, who will write and direct the movie, pitched the idea.
Universal-based Imagine Entertainment will produce ‘The Paranormalists,’ which will reportedly feature a quirky tone. The live-action film will follow in the tone of Letterman’s previous films, the animated ‘Monsters vs. Aliens’ and ‘Shark’s Tales,’ as well as the Jack Black-starring version of ‘Gulliver’s Travels.’
The details of ‘The Paranormalists’ storyline is currently being kept under wraps. However, it will reportedly follow a group of people who enter a haunted house, intent on debunking he presence of spirits. However, things don’t go as they planned.
Gregory Noveck, the senior vice president of production for Syfy Films, will oversee the project, on behalf of the studio. Brian Grazer will produce the film, while Kim Roth and Sarah Bowen will serve as executive producers for Imagine.
Syfy Films was recently created by Universal and Syfy to produce low-budget genre movies. ‘The Paranormalists’ is the second project to be set up at the label this year, after ‘Day 38,’ another found footage project. That movie is being produced by McG and his Wonderland Sound & Vision banner.
