Sacha Baron Cohen and his antics aren’t “Oscar material,” as it were, especially this year, in which antics got Brett Ratner fired, causing Billy Crystal (a safe choice) to once again take on the hosting duties of the Oscars. I doubt the producers over the show wanted to deal with any lewd jokes Baron Cohen might make.
According to Collider via Deadline, the MPAA has withheld Baron Cohen’s tickets, the reason being that he had petitioned the Academy to come dressed as his newest character, the Dictator, in an effort to promote the film of the same name. However, the irony is that Baron Cohen is also in the Oscar-nominated “Hugo.”
According to an Academy insider, the MPAA isn’t letting Baron Cohen come just because they are not sure of the types of stunts he might pull. A spokesperson for the Academy also confirmed the fact that Baron Cohen’s tickets have been withheld from him, and that they’re waiting to hear back from him. Apparently, the response they’re hoping to get is that he will behave.
