The Sacha Baron Cohen/Oscars saga continues with a statement issued by Baron Cohen as his character in “The Dictator,” General Aladeen.

The statement, in the form of a YouTube video posted on RepublicofWadiya.com(embedded below), shows General Aladeen giving the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (whom he called “the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Zionists) an ultimatum–give him his tickets back by 12 p.m. Sunday or “you will face unimaginable consequences.”

According to The Wrap, Baron Cohen does, in fact, have his tickets to the Oscars. AMPAS president Tom Sherak confirmed this to the site and also said the Academy did want Baron Cohen to attend. “But we’d like him to come as Sacha,” said Sherak.

However, the event has allowed Baron Cohen a good storyline in order to promote his film. Late Friday, The Hollywood Reporter broke the news that Baron Cohen has finally been welcomed to come to the Oscars as General Aladeen. “We’re thrilled to have him and he’ll be on the red carpet dressed as ‘The Dictator’,” said Brian Grazer to Extra.

Now that Baron Cohen’s been allowed to come as his character, I highly doubt this will be the last video made about this incident. I could be wrong, but I can see it being something that Baron Cohen could stretch, at least until a little after the Oscars, We’ll see if I’m right.

What do you think about this news? Do you think Baron Cohen should be able to come to the Oscars in full costume? Give your opinion in the comments section below.
