While at the 2012 Film Independent Spirit Awards, screenwriter Will Reiser took a small amount of time in front of the press to discuss what his latest project “Jamaica” would be about. It’s already been revealed that this would be his next script writing project which Jonathan Levine (“50/50,” “The Wackness”) would be directing once more. He goes a little more in-depth with what the story is about:
“I’m currently writing a movie, it’s inspired by a vacation that I took with my grandmother when I was thirteen. She and I, we went to Jamaica and somehow ended up at a couples resort. She was also in the early stages of Alzheimer’s and passed later on.”
When he was asked about the overall tone of this new movie, he said it wasn’t too far off from what we’ve seen so far in “50/50.” “It’s in the same vein as “50/50,” it’s dramatic and comedic, it’s all of that. One of my favorite movies is “Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore” and tonally it very much matches that film.”
Will Reiser just won the Independent Spirit Award for Best First Screenplay and was nominated at this year’s Golden Globes for Best Picture – Comedy or Musical. “50/50” is currently out on DVD and Blu-ray.
