‘Melrose Place’ actress Jessica Lucas and ‘Legend of the Seeker’ star Elizabeth Blackmore have joined the cast of director Fede Alvarez’s upcoming horror remake ‘The Evil Dead,’ Slashfilm is reporting. The two will portray two friends of the main character, played by ‘Suburgatory’s Jane Levy, who replaced Lily Collins after she dropped out due to scheduling conflicts.
Levy plays Mia, a troubled young woman who is struggling with her mother’s recent death. She travels to a remote cabin in the woods to detox from her dug addiction, with her best friend, played by Lucas; her estranged brother David, portrayed by ‘Red Riding Hood’s Shiloh Fernandez; his fiancee, played by Blackmore; and their academic friend Eric, played by ‘Beginners’ Lou Taylor Pucci.
While at the cabin, the group finds the Book of the Dead. They unwittingly unleash malicious supernatural forces. The script was written by Alzarez and Rodo Savagues, and ‘Juno’ screenwriter Diablo Cody contributed a rewrite.
Lucas is known for her horror film contributions, as she previously starred in ‘Cloverfield’ and ‘The Covenant.’ While Blackmore is more of an unknown, she previously worked with Sam Raimi, the director of the original ‘Evil Dead’ series and a producer on the remake, on ‘Legend of the Seeker.’ ‘The Evil Dead’ remake is set to be released on April 12, 2013.
