With ‘The Hunger Games’ director Gary Ross and screenwriter Simon Beaufoy returning with the entire surviving cast to adapt ‘Catching Fire,’ the second sequel in the popular book series, there has been speculation about the filming on the third and final book, ‘MockingJay.’ Nina Jacobson, one of the producers on ‘The Hunger Games,’ has revealed details about the upcoming movie sequels, Slashfilm is reporting. She said that the first sequel isn’t a sure thing, but it looks “pretty good right now,” with a fall production start date looking possible.
Ross decided to bring Beaufoy back to adapt ‘Catching Fire,’ which is set to have a possible November 2013 release date. The director is also committed to making the sequel his next project.
After Lionsgate revealed that it’s considering splitting the second film sequel, ‘MockingJay,’ into two films, many fans of the book series expressed they felt it was unnecessary. But Jacobson, who discovered ‘The Hunger Games’ book in a book store and decided to bring the idea to Hollywood, said “To set the stage for a third, or even fourth, movie, a second needs to be completed first.”
Jacobson added “The third one? We haven’t even, honestly, started to figure it out yet. There’s a lot of material in that book. Ultimately, it’s a conversation with (Suzanne) Collins and Lionsgate I am very committed to (Suzanne).”
