According to the Independent, Julia O’Dwyer, the mother of Richard O’Dwyer, has stated that she really didn’t know what her son was doing on the internet, but she doesn’t want him extradited to the U.S.
Richard O’Dwyer is accused of braking copyright laws due to the nature of his website, TVShack, which offered users links to American films and television shows. His site soon became popular, and, according to the site, TVShack began to gain advertisement.
O’Dwyer’s mother was shocked when City of London police raided the O’Dwyer home and Richard’s place of residence in 2010. “Richard just had his student room and they said, ‘Well he’s got nothing has he?’ I said ‘no he hasn’t,” Julia said to the Independent. “He’s got his laptop, his copmuter that you have taken, his camera and his phone and a few gadgets.”
Last Thursday, an order was signed by Home Secretary Theresa May authorizing for Richard’s extradition. Once extradited, he could face up to 10 years in jail for breaking copyright laws, but his mother is going to do whatever it takes to keep her son in the UK. However, if Richard does end up in court, FilmOn.com’s founder and CEO Alki David is prepared to pay his legal fees.
