‘The Amazing Spider-Man’ director Marc Webb has hinted that the anticipated super-hero film sets up subsequent villains for future installments in the series, Slashfilm is reporting. While at WonderCon in Anaheim, California, the filmmaker not only showed a footage reel that was previously only shown to select audiences, but also alluded that the plot sets up sequels to the reboot.
After discussing the 3D in ‘The Amazing Spider-Man,’ which stars Andrew Garfield as the title character and Emma Stone as his love interest, Gwen Stacy, and the design of current villain Lizard, Webb said the film works on its own. He said “The movie is conceived first and foremost to work as its own entity but there are certain things like…the story of his parents that emotionally and narratively are the long shadow that’s cast over his life.”
But Webb added that there are “Certainly there are hints to deeper stories yet, you know, we’ve got to finish this before we can get to that so it was important that it function on its own.” The fact that Peter Parker’s deceased parents play a larger role in the story than the usual Uncle Ben death hints that the director will expand his narrative to future films.
