Jeremy Piven will be returning to television in the upcoming ITV1 drama ‘Mr. Selfridge,’ Deadline is reporting. The former ‘Entourage’ star will play the title character, flamboyant and visionary American entrepreneur Harry Gordon Selfridge, in the series.
‘Mr. Selfridge,’ which was created by writer Andrew Davies, follows Harry, a man who’s on a mission to make shopping as thrilling as sex. Harry is known to be pioneering and reckless, with an almost manic energy. He created a theatre of retail where any trend that was new, exciting, entertaining and eccentric was showcased.
Also appearing on ‘Mr. Selfridge’ is Katherine Kelly, as the confident and alluring socialite Lady Mae. Her connections prove to be vital for Harry as he builds his empire. Frances O’Connor will play Harry’s wife Rose, while Gregory Fitoussi will portray Henri Leclair, Harry’s creative director. Aisling Loftus will play shop assistant Agnes, while Trystan Gravelle will portray ladies man Victor, who serves as the Assistant Manager at Selfridge’s’ in-store restaurant.
‘Mr. Selfridge,’ which is based on the book ‘Shopping, Seduction and Mr. Selfridge,’ by Lindy Woodhead, is set in 1909 in London. Telling the real life story of Harry Gordon Selfridge and his store, the series will begin production next month in London. It will air on ITV1 in 2013.
