‘Hellraiser: The Series’ is now being developed for television by Sonar Entertainment and executive producer Larry Kupin, Variety is reporting. Kupin, who will bring the series to television, works for New World, the company that released ‘Hellraiser’ and ‘Hellbound: Hellraiser II.’
According to Sonar, ‘Hellraiser: The Series’ will honor and follow the successful film series and its villain, Pinhead. The antagonist is summoned from an underworld by an ancient puzzle box. He seduces people with power and tempts them with fear, until their soul belongs to him.
The announcement of ‘Hellraiser: The Series’ comes after Sonar went through bankruptcy and the departure of its founder, Robert Halmi Sr. Stewart Till has stepped in as the chief executive for the production company tries to expand the scope of its distribution business beyond the made-for-television movies and mini-series that were common under Halmi.
Sonar chairman Gabriel de Alba said rebranding the company “represents a fresh start and a solid business strategy for growth and expansion…we are looking ahead to developing new concepts, content and formats, in different genres and with a variety of partners.” De Alba added that the company has managed to stabilize, and it has been exceeding its sales numbers. Stewart Till, the CEO of Sonar Entertainment, added that great writers and directors, who have helped make films great, have become more relevant in television, and will help with ‘Hellraiser: The Series.’
