The filmmakers of the hit horror franchise ‘Paranormal Activity’ are reuniting to make a Latino-themed horror film that will be distributed by Paramount, Heat Vision is reporting. ‘Paranormal Activity’ producers Jason Blum and Oren Peli will reunite with Christopher Landon, the writer of the franchise’s two sequels, for the new film, which has been described as a “cousin” to the series.
The new film won’t be a sequel, reboot or spin-off of the ‘Paranormal Activity’ movies, but instead be Latino-based. The movie will feature a Latino cast and feature Catholic-based paranormal mythology, but won’t be in Spanish.
Paramount is looking to make the small-budgeted film within the next several months. It could be released as early as January 2013, a month that features many religiously-themed horror films. This past January, the Catholic-centered found-footage horror hit ‘The Devil Inside,’ which was shot for about $1 million, but grossed $53 million domestically and $46 internationally.
Latinos are a prime audience for movie studios, as they seen more films than non-Latinos. Since they are mainly Catholic, religious-themed horror films tend to make a large profit in Latioo markets.
Paramount has not publicly commented on any details about the film. But Steven Schneider has been confirmed as a producer on the project.
