People think they know a lot about relationships when, in fact, they don’t, said Terrence J, BET’s “106 and Park” host and actor in the upcoming film, “Think Like A Man.”
Terrence, who plays the character Michael in in the film, read the Steve Harvey self-help book the film is based on before joining the cast. He said the book, which is funny and insightful, really puts into perspective the type of work and knowledge that goes into understanding how relationships work. Terrence compared learning about relationships from the book to learning about one’s future career.
“If you’re going to be a politician, you go to college to learn about government. If you want to be a doctor, you go to medical school. Everybody thinks we’re all experts at love…this book teaches you information so you can have something to talk to [your significant other] about.”
One interesting aspect the film touches on, according to Terrence, is how today’s society has done away with real interaction in the beginning stages of a relationship. “Nowadays, if a man is interested in a woman, all he has to do is add her to his Facebook page or Twitter page,” he said. “They’re starting something without putting in the real work. Part of the decorum is lost. The film focuses on treating women with respect. You’re going to laugh, [the film] is funny, but you’re going to learn something more.”
“Think Like A Man” comes to theaters April 20. You can see more of Terrence later this year in “Sparkle” as well on television as on “106 and Park.”
