Rooney Mara is in final negotiations to take over the role previously given to Carey Mulligan in the upcoming untitled Spike Jonze film, Slashfilm is reporting. If the Academy Award-winning actress is cast, she would join already confirmed actors Joaquin Phoenix, Amy Adams and Samantha Morton.
Mulligan had to reportedly back out of Jonze’s film, due to scheduling conflicts. She can next be seen in the Coen Brother’s ‘Inside Llewyn Davis’ and Baz Luhrmann’s ‘The Great Gatsby’ later this year.
Mara will shoot the Jonze film after she finishes filming Steven Soderbergh’s ‘The Bitter Pill,’ in which she plays the lead role. ‘The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo’ star will also be filming Terrence Malick’s untitled new movie alongside Ryan Gosling, which was formerly titled ‘Lawless.’
Jonze’s film will be his first feature since his 2009 adaptation of the famed children’s book ‘Where the Wild Things Are.’ The new movie, which the filmmaker also wrote, will follow a man, played by Phoenix, who falls in love with the voice of a computer.
Mara reportedly wants to appear in the film after having a positive experience on ‘The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo.’ She wants to stick to working with directors who have the same auteur style as the crime drama’s helmer, David Fincher.
