With Tim Burton’s film adaptation of the cult television series ‘Dark Shadows’ set to hit theaters next Friday, the director has spoken about another one of his famous films recently-‘Batman,’ which is widely regarded as one of the best comic book movies of all time. While discussing ‘Dark Shadows’ with Cinemax magazine, Burton compared his adaption to Christopher Nolan’s series, Comic Book Movie is reporting.
Burton said that he always gets told that his Batman material was dark. But “nowadays my version of Batman looks like a lighthearted romp in comparison to (Christoper) Nolan’s ‘Dark Knight,'” he added.
The director also spoke about Michell Pfieffer’s take on Catwoman in his sequel, ‘Batman Returns.’ Burton admitted that her performance is one of his favorites, and she called him for a role in ‘Dark Shadows’ because she was a fan of the television show.
Burton said Pfieffer “impressed me by letting a live bird fly out of her mouth, learning how to use a real hip and dancing around on rooftops with high-healed shoes on. She did all that stuff for real.”
The director added that he hadn’t spoken to the actress much in the 20 years since ‘Batman Returns’ was released. But “she called before I had started working on ‘Dark Shadows,’ and she told me how much she loved the old TV series and she wanted to be involved,” he added.
