With the box office record breaking sales of Marvel’s superhero action film ‘The Avengers’ this weekend, sales of shawarma, a popular meat preparation of Levantine Arab cuisine, skyrocketed in Los Angeles, TMZ is reporting. The increase in sales comes after a scene at the end of the movie within the credits shows the film’s stars eating a shawarma lunch at an undisclosed location. The scene was a callback to a joke Robert Downey Jr.’s character, Iron Man, made earlier in the film.
Several restaurants across Los Angeles reported the increase in shawarma sales this weekend. The manager at the famed Lebanese restaurant Ro Ro’s Chicken said sales jumped 80 percent after the movie opened.
