Google is celebrating Mother’s Day with a new animated Doodle. The Doodle, which replaces the search engine’s official logo on its homepage, first shows the lowercase g in Google, wearing pearls. A large door opens, with her two children, the two os in Google’s name, peek around the door. One o is red and holding a flower, while the other is yellow.

When the os run out from behind the door, they jump into their mother’s arms. She takes the flowers and sets the children down, as the remaining letters from the search engine’s name appear in gray.

When Google users hover their cursors over the Doodle, the message “Happy Mother’s Day!” appears. When they click on the animation, a search results page for the holiday appears.

Mother’s Day was created when Ann Jarvis founded Mother’s Day Work Clubs in several cities. The clubs was committed to charity, including improving sanitation and treating, feeding and clothing Union and Confederate soldiers.

After Jarvis died, her daughter, Anna, worked to make Mother’s Day a nationally recognized holiday. Mother’s Day was first celebrated across America in 1914.

Anna soon became upset that the holiday became commercialized, and people started sending their mothers printed cards. “A printed card means nothing except that you are too lazy to write to the woman who has done more for you than anyone in the world,” she said.
