I’ve mentioned in another post about my love for Mark Ruffalo as the Incredible Hulk, but I’ll reiterate–I really love Ruffalo as the Hulk (and as himself). After feeling “meh” about the other two “Hulk” films (with more of the “meh” going toward the first “Hulk” film), I finally feel energized about a character that has a really great story.
With that being said, I remain optimistically hesitant about a “Hulk” TV show. That probably doesn’t make any sense, but you’ll see what I mean when I explain more about this bit of news.
According to Superhero Hype, ABC Entertainment President Paul Lee stated during a conference call with the New York Daily News his interest in bringing the Hulk to TV. In fact, Lee said ABC is aiming to have the show ready for the 2013-2014 season.
The good news is that it’s being developed my Guillermo del Toro and David Eick for ABC Studios and Marvel TV. The bad news is that it’s being made for TV. We’ve seen “Terra Nova” and SyFy Channel films–we know how bad TV CGI can get due to low budgets. Heck, even “The Hounds of Baskerville,” an episode in the otherwise slickly-produced BBC show “Sherlock” had cheesy graphics. The Hulk needs a huge budget in order to create believable graphics. The biggest question of all is if they’ll get Ruffalo to star in the show! Personally, I’ll accept no other! The “Hulk” franchise needs some continuity, after all–we need to decide on one actor and one actor only for at least a little while, at least until the franchise finally gets on its feet.
What about a movie about the Hulk? I mean, I’m sure it’s going to come up somewhere down the line thanks to the success of “Marvel’s The Avengers” and the public’s love for Ruffalo’s rendition of the character, but I’d rather hear about a “Hulk” movie before hearing about a television show. Oh well.
