Variety has revealed that executive producers Joe and Anthony Russo of the TV series Community and Happy Endings are currently in talks with Marvel to direct the forthcoming Captain America sequel. The duo is an unlikely fit, but as Cinema Blend points out Marvel’s recent partnering with certain writers has helped them create some serious blockbuster success as seen with The Avengers that was penned and directed by Buffy The Vampire’s Joss Whedon.
While Marvel is keeping mum about the hire it is being reported that Chris Evans will once again return to the titular role of super soldier and crime fighter Steve Rogers with longtime actor Samuel L. Jackson reprising his role as Nick Fury. The second installment of Captain America was penned by writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely and will be produced with the help of Kevin Feige of Marvel. Details involving the plot have been scarce. Joe and Anthony Russo’s credits include the 2006 comedy You, Me and Dupree, as well as Welcome to Collinwood, and the fan favorite television series Arrested Development.
The Captain America sequel will be released on April 4, 2014. What do you think about the Russo’s taking on the superhero? Let us know below.
