Police were surprised yesterday to find an armed, off-duty police officer leaving the home of a trauma surgeon who’s believed to have shot his ex-girlfriend dead, USA Today is reporting. The officer, who was friends with the wanted surgeon in high school, was seen coming out of the doctor’s home with $5,000 and a Rolex watch.
The officer, Martin Motley III, who has been on injured-on-duty status for three years, wasn’t able to provide police with any useful information as to why he was at Dr. Timothy Jorden’s home in Lake View, New York. Investigators went to the home, as they were searching for Jorden, a former Army special Forces soldier, who is considered armed and dangerous. He’s a person of interest in the fatal shooting Wednesday of Jackie Wisniewski, a secretary at Erie County Medical Center.
Jorden has since disappeared since the shooting occurred. He withdrew up to $30,000 from his bank account in the days leading up to the shooting, The Buffalo News is reporting. The newspaper also said Jorden recently grew a beard and lost about 75 pounds.
Buffalo Police Commissioner Daniel Derenda said Jorden’s “out there somewhere. We believe he’s still in the United States. To the best of my knowledge, he has not crossed the border.”
