Reese Witherspoon and commercial director Bryan Buckley have signed on to work on Summit’s film adaptation of John Gray’s 1992 bestselling book ‘Men are From Mars, Women are From Venus,’ Slashfilm is reporting. The movie, which has been in development since 2010, will be the feature film directorial debut for Buckley.

The director, who’s been called King of the Super Bowl the past few years, has helmed more than 40 ads for the annual football event. He’s worked on such ads as the New Era campaign with Alec Baldwin and John Krasinski; the Siri spots with Zooey Deschanel and John Malkovich; and the American Express ads with Ellen DeGeneres and Conan O’Brien.

Summit hired ‘Can’t Hardly Wait’ directors Deborah Kaplan and Harry Elfont last year to write ‘Men are From Mars, Women are From Venus.’ Summit hasn’t released aren’t any specific plot details about the film yet. However, the studio intends to turn the film into a romantic comedy; ‘Men are From Mars, Women are From Venus,’ one of the best-selling hardcover nonfiction books of all time, is a manual about gender differences.

‘Men are From Mars, Women are From Venus’ is expected to begin filming in January. Witherspoon, who is also attached to ‘Devil’s Knot,’ ‘Big Eyes’ and ‘Wish List,’ will shoot ‘Men are From Mars, Women are From Venus a few months after giving birth to her third child.
