Being able to multitask on a film set in any respect is a major asset, but what better double threat is there than an actor who can bake? Dwight Henry followed his heart, dismissing the naysayers until he was finally able to open up his very own bakery. However, once his business was up and running, a new opportunity presented itself, a once in a life time opportunity, but also one that could take his attention away from the bakery he strived so hard to establish – the chance to star in the feature film Beasts of the Southern Wild.

Henry leads as Wink, a single father trying to raise his young daughter, Hushpuppy (Quvenzhané Wallis), in a bayou community cut off from the rest of society called the Bathtub. When a storm blows in drowning the region, a group of steadfast residents refuse to evacuate, Wink leading the effort to rebuild the Bathtub even while struggling with a severe health issue.

It took quite a bit of courting by the filmmakers and a number of late night rehearsals to accommodate Henry’s baking schedule, but he was just too perfect for the part to let slip away and, having seen the full feature, going the extra length to get Henry on board was well worth it. In honor of his feature debut, Henry traveled to New York City to support the June 27th release of Beasts of the Southern Wild. Hear all about Henry’s double life as a baker and actor straight from the man himself in the video interview below.
