Kevin Smith stepped away from his usual fare of discussing and critiquing films in the latest episode of his new web series ‘Spoilers.’ In honor of the victims of the shooting in Aurora, Colorado during the midnight showing of ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ on Friday, the actor and director took the time to reflect on the tragedy.
On the tribute episode of the Hulu series, Smith asked audience members their thoughts on the shooting. While they expressed their sympathies for the victims and questioned the amount of violence shown in modern films, Smith also brought up the topic of fear of attending the acclaimed second sequel of Christopher Nolan’s acclaimed Batman film.
The ‘Red State’ director said he didn’t want to be the person who brought up a taboo notion; but while watching the superhero film in during a screening, he kept looking at fellow audience members, especially those who walked in and out of the theater. He added that he felt it was necessary to bring up the idea. He added that it, along with the shooting overall, were far too important to “sweep under the rug” and pretend it didn’t happen.
