Lionsgate and the filmmakers of ‘The Hunger Games: Catching Fire’ have announced that Lynn Cohen has been cast as Mags in the anticipated second installment of the hit sci-fi action adventure film series. In the movie adaptation of Suzanne Collins’ hit novel ‘Catching Fire,’ Mags will be shown as an eighty-year-old Hunger Games victor from District 4. She was also a former mentor to Finnick Odair, to be played by Sam Claflin.
Cohen is known to New York theater audiences for decades of roles. She has also appeared in such acclaimed films as Steven Spielberg’s ‘Munich’ and Charlie Kaufman’s ‘Synecdoche, NY.’ She also was seen in the two ‘Sex and The City’ films, and will next appear in ‘They Came Together’ with Paul Rudd and Amy Poehler.
‘The Hunger Games: Catching Fire’ follows Katniss Everdeen, played by Jennifer Lawrence, as she safely returns home to District 12. She’s joined by fellow tribute and winner of the 74th Annual Hunger Games, Peeta Mellark, portrayed by Josh Hutcherson. They must leave their friends and family again to embark on a Victor’s Tour of the districts.
Along the way, Katniss learns there’s a rebellion in the districts, which the Capital is in control of. President Snow is preparing for the 75th Annual Hunger Games, called The Quarter Quell, a competition that could change Panem forever.
Cohen and the rest of the cast of ‘The Hunger Games: Catching Fire’ will be directed by Francis Lawrence. The sequel will be released on November 22, 2013.
