Julie Benz has revealed that she’s interested in playing The Wasp in Joss Whedon’s sequel to his critically acclaimed and record-breaking superhero film ‘The Avengers,’ Comic Movie Movie is reporting. The former ‘Dexter’ star chatted with fans at the Fan Expo Canada on Thursday, and said she hasn’t spoken to the filmmaker about the role, but she likes the idea.
Benz, who is best known for playing Rita Morgan on Showtime’s hit serial killer drama series, asked fans at the expo to tweet to Whedon that she’s interested in appearing in the ‘Avengers’ sequel. Benz added that she doesn’t even know who the Wasp is. But she asked the audience to help get her cast. “Let’s see the power of Twitter!,” she said. Benz added that she knows the director is on the micro-blogging website, and she would love to work with him if he called her.
If Benz was to appear in the ‘Avengers’ sequel, it wouldn’t be the first time she was exposed to the superhero genre. The actress had roles in ‘No Ordinary Family’ and ‘Punisher: War Zone.’ She also previously worked with Whedon on ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ and ‘Angel,’ which is why she was questioned about her possible involvement with the ‘Avengers’ sequel.
