The cult 1980 horror thriller ‘Mother’s Day’ will be released on Blu-ray and DVD for the first time on September 4. Anchor Bay Entertainment, the leader in horror for home entertainment, will release the highly-anticipated Blu-ray and DVD.
‘Mother’s Day’ originally shocked critics when it was originally released by Troma Entertainment. However, the film has garnered a large cult following among fans of the genre since its initial release. Among the fans of the movie are ‘Hostel’ director Eli Roth and filmmaker Darren Lynn Bousman, who helmed ‘Saw II-Iv’ and this year’s ‘Mother’s Day’ remake, starring Rebecca De Mornay.
The original ‘Mother’s Day’ was directed by Charles Kaufman, who co-wrote the script with Warren Leight. The film follows three young women as they’re abducted by homicidal momma’s boys Ike and Addley while they’re camping. Ike and Addley’s “mother” coerces them into using violent and graphic acts of torture against the three women. While trying to stay alive, the women muster the courage to escape and serve their abductors justice.
The ‘Mother’s Day’ Blu-ray and DVD feature an all-new HD transfer and never-before-seen-bonus features, including commentary, behind-the-scenes footage and a new featurette with Roth. The Blu-ray has an SRP of $24.00, and the DVD has an SRP of $19.98.
