After the script for Paramount Pictures and Platinum Dunes’ upcoming ‘Ninja Turtles’ reboot hit the Internet last week and received negative reviews, producer Michael Bay commented that the screenplay is now much different, Coming Soon is reporting. Bay wrote on his website that the “leaked script for ‘Ninja Turtles’ that different sites continue to comment on was written well before I, or anyone at Platinum Dunes, was involved with the project.”
The head of the mainly horror-driven production company further went on to say that “that script saw the shredder a long time ago. This is tired, old news-Wait for the movie!”
Despite Bay’s objections, Platinum Dunes first became involved with the ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ in May 2010. The leaked script for ‘Ninja Turtles’ was dated January 30, 2012.
But Bay explained that “we signed on two years ago to ‘Turtles,’ but with no deal in place. Deal completed towards end of last year. Yes, that’s how long deals sometimes take,” the ‘Transformers: Dark of the Moon’ director said. He added “no work was done on the script. Blame Paramount, not us for the first draft.”
‘Ninja Turtles’ is being helmed by Jonathan Liebesman, who previously worked with Bay and Platinum Dunes on the 2006 horror slasher prequel ‘The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning.’ The ‘Ninja Turtles’ reboot is scheduled to be released in theaters on May 16, 2014.
