The sixth installment of the popular ‘Child’s Play’ series, ‘Curse of Chucky,’ is beginning principal photography today in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. The franchise comes full circle as Toyland’s most gruesome serial killer returns in an all-new film from Universal 1440 Entertainment.
‘Curse of Chucky,’ which is being directed by Don Mancini, the creator of the ‘Child’s Play’ franchise, who has also written or co-written each of the previous installments and helmed 2004’s ‘Seed of Chucky,’ is expected to be released on DVD next year. David Kirschner, who produced the entire ‘Child’s Play’ franchise, is returning as a producer on ‘Curse of Chucky.’
The fifth ‘Child’s Play’ sequel stars Fiona Dourif, A. Martinez, Danielle Bisutti and Brennan Elliott. Brad Dourif once again will be providing the voice of the title character, a doll possessed by the spirit of notorious serial killer Charles Lee Ray.
Glenn Ross, the General Manager and Executive Vice President of Universal 1440 Entertainment, said “Since his introduction to audiences in ‘Child’s Play’ almost a quarter-century ago, Chucky has haunted the nightmares of a generation of moviegoers. Returning to his roots in one of the most provocative horror franchises, this new sequel will shock longtime fans of the series and newcomers alike.”
The action horror thriller follows Nica (played by Fiona Dourif) as she’s grieving over the gruesome suicide of her mother. Her domineering older sister Barb (portrayed by Bisutti) arrives with her young family to help settle their mother’s affairs. As the sisters argue over Nica’s plans for her future, Barb’s young daughter comforts herself with the Chucky doll that mysteriously arrived in the mail.
As a string of brutal murders begins to terrorize their house, Nica comes to believe the Chucky doll may be the killer. What she doesn’t know is that the doll is determined to finish a job he started more than 20 years ago, and this time he’s going to see it through until the end.
