The World Food Championships (WFC) announced today that Grey Poupon Dijon Mustard will be the title sponsor for the World Sandwich Championship competition that will take place on Saturday, Nov. 3, 2012 at Bally’s Las Vegas.
The World Food Championships will bring culinary champions from all walks of life into one arena so that they can square off for food supremacy and a prize purse of $300,000. Using a hybrid of sanctioned, celebrity and customized judging processes, The World Food Championships will identify winners in seven key categories of divisional cooking competitions, culminating in a Final Table face-off with celebrity food experts, including Adam Richman, star of the Travel Channel’s “Adam Richman’s Best Sandwich in America” and “Man v. Food: Nation,” presiding as the chief judge.
“The WFC is excited to announce the addition of Grey Poupon as one of our primary sponsors,” commented Richman. “We are thrilled that they will be part of our World Sandwich Competition and help us deliver a
world-class food experience for both consumers and competitors.”
“Grey Poupon is very excited to be the sponsor for the inaugural Sandwich Championship. Our Dijon mustard is a culinary-centric ingredient that serves as the perfect complement to a culinary-centric competition; we believe this is a great fit,” said Rebecca Daugherty, Business Manager Enhancers at Kraft Foodservice. “There is genuine artistry involved in crafting a delicious sandwich. The sandwich category provides the perfect platform for Grey Poupon to shine in the hands of sandwich artists. We expect to see and taste several championship caliber sandwiches!”
The 2012 WFC categories will feature classic American cuisine: barbecue, chili, burgers, sandwiches, side dishes, a Champions Challenge featuring winners of online recipe contests, and a World Chef Challenge open to some of the best chefs from America’s greatest food cities. Although Grey Poupon will not be required during the initial sandwich phase, it will be featured in the secondary and final judging process as the WFC crowns the sandwich king or queen.
“Grey Poupon is an iconic brand in the culinary world and we’re excited to have it associated with our event,” said Mike McCloud, president of Trybe Targeting, the company that is producing the four-day event. “As the title sponsor for the World Sandwich Championship, Grey Poupon will be awarding $25,000 in total prize money and helping us celebrate sandwich artisans in a very unique way.”
