‘Game Change’ scribe Danny Strong will write the last two installments of the ‘Hunger Games’ films, Variety has confirmed. As loyal ‘Hunger Games’ fans know, the last book in the series will follow the close of the saga with leading character Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence). Actors Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth will also star. Strong brings with him writing credits that include the upcoming movie with director Lee Daniels entitled ‘The Butler’, a film that follows the titular character and his time in the White House, serving 8 presidents. Strong has also penned the shorts, ‘Rooster’ and ‘Recount’, as well as appearing in the cult favorite series ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’, ‘Grey’s Anatomy’, AMC’s ‘Mad Men’, ‘Over the Top’, ‘Gilmore Girls’ as Doyle, and more.
The finale, entitled ‘Mockingjay’, will be released by Lionsgate in two parts and is scheduled to hit theaters on November 21st 2014 with the last installment making its debut on November 20th 2015. Followers of the Suzanne Collins adaption won’t have to wait too long since the second installment ‘Catching Fire’ will hit theaters this year on November 22nd 2013 under the direction of Francis Lawrence. So far Lionsgate has yet to issue a statement over their new deal with Strong.
