‘Sopranos’ creator David Chase has released the first trailer for his big feature movie debut, ‘Not Fade Away’. Chase helms a story that follows a 1960’s New Jersey garage band. The upcoming drama reunites Chase and actor James Gandolfini who fans know best as mob boss Tony Soprano. In his latest role Gandolfini is seen in the trailer playing the disapproving and stern Italian father of actor John Magaro who resembles a young Howard Stern. The rest of the first look features Magaro in the lead role trying to fight his way to the top as he and his bandmates aspire to make it big like The Rolling Stones. Actress Bella Heathcoate (In Time), Jack Huston (Boardwalk Empire), Brad Garrett (Everybody Loves Raymond), and Will Brill (Girls Against Boys), also star in the December 21st release.
From the looks of it Chase is going for a classic coming of age tale with a rebellious teen at its core. The storyline is nothing knew but after a successful run with Sopranos there is sure to be a fan base out there who should be interested unless Chase literally decides to fade away or go black once again. The trailer also showcases a few songs in the backdrop with Chase recently telling fans at Lincoln Center that the full length movie is chalked full of tracks from the 60’s. “In ‘The Sopranos,’ one of my favorite parts of that — or maybe my favorite part of that whole thing — was putting the picture and the sound together, putting the music in,” he noted. Adding, “I wanted to continue that. I missed that once I was gone.”
