A new video chronicling the powers of the casters in the upcoming fantasy film ‘Beautiful Creatures’ has been released. Writer-director Richard LaGravenese has described the casters as supernaturals, not immortals. “They’re people who have powers beyond the finite abilities of most mortals,” he said.
LaGravenese added that each caster has his or her own unique ability. “On their 16th birthday, each caster is claimed for a side: light or dark. Lena, whose milestone year looms large, hopes to go light, especially after the cautionary tale of her dark caster cousin Ridley, played by Emmy Rossum,” the filmmaker added.
Rossum said that Lena is a natural, so her powers are magnified. “If she becomes a dark caster, she will become the most powerful dark caster in the world, and the same for the light,” the ‘Shameless’ actress added.
Alice Englert, who plays Lena, said her character’s “16th birthday falls on the most powerful solstice in 5,000 years, and more energy will be released than ever before and transferred to her.”
‘Beautiful Creatures,’ which is based on the New York Ties best-selling novel of the same name by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl, is a coming-of-age story set in the South. Lena, a mysterious new girl, meets local boy Ethan, played by Alden Ehrenreich, as they discover dark secrets about their families, their histories and their town.
