Shockya’s Top Ten Albums of 2012 is already out, but that doesn’t mean the honorable mentions of this year need to end. So pencil in singer/songwriter, Josh Doyle (formerly of the UK band The Dumdums) and his self-titled album, which dropped October 22 via CTK Records/Corporate Ogre Records.
Last month, Doyle’s music video for the album’s lead single “Solarstorms” covered the pages of Shockya and this month, he is back with an acoustic version for the track, “Everyone’s Alone.” Shot for the “At: Guitar Center with Harcourt” series at Hollywood Vintage room, the video sheds light on a more soulful side of Doyle unheard in the studio version. While autotune can successfully replace raw talent, few would disagree that that performance is as expressive as when an artist sings with only a guitar and a mic. Doyle upholds this statement.
2012 has proven to be a successful year for Doyle. Guitar Center named him “the nation’s top undiscovered singer-songwriter” in the brand’s very first singer/songwriter competition. Beating out more than 17,000 entries, Doyle received a three song EP by Grammy Award- winning producer John Shanks for his victory. The Shanks and Doyle partnership went beyond the prize with Shanks recording a full-length album instead of an EP. The 10 track album is now available on iTunes.
