Entertainment Weekly got the scoop on what’s happening for “The Muppets” sequel, coming to theaters March 21, 2014. From what I’ve read, it feels like “The Muppets” sequel will be more in line with traditional “Muppets” movies than “The Muppets.”
As an aside, I did like “The Muppets” to a degree, but I didn’t love it. The fact that the Muppets themselves referred to themselves as Muppets threw me off and, to me, isn’t really what the Muppets are about. The Muppets are all about classic humor, not living in a world where everyone–including themselves–realize they are…not alive or something.
Anyway, the sequel to “The Muppets” will be set in London and have Kermit and the gang involved in a jewel caper, similar to the classic heist movies.
“I always loved those classic jewel-heist capers from the ’60s and ’70s, so I was very keen to do that had elements of that [genre] featuring the Muppets comedy and songs,” said James Robin, the director and co-writer of the film (along with Nicholas Stoller). The film’s cameos include Ty Burrell, Ricky Gervais and Tina Fey.
