Mariah Carey has recorded the song ‘Almost Home’ for the anticipated ‘Oz the Great and Powerful,’ Disney has announced. The song has been released as a single by the ‘American Idol’ judge’s label, Island Def Jam. Disney, Carey and Island Def Jam have launched a promotional campaign to support the single and the film.
The singer reunited with director David LaChapelle for the video for ‘Almost Home.’ He previously photographed Carey for album covers, and directed her video ‘Loverboy.’
“‘Almost Home’ has a message that works beautifully with the film,” Carey said of the song, which she co-wrote and co-produced. “It’s a feel-good record; it gives you the feeling of reaching your home and being with people that you love.”
Carey is currently working on her new studio album, which is set to be released this spring. She produced ‘Almost Home’ with Stargate, and co-wrote the single with Simone Porter, Justin Gray, Lindsey Ray, Tor Erik Hermansen and Mikkel Eriksen.
The action adventure fantasy film is set to be released in theaters on March 8. ‘Oz the Great and Powerful,’ which was directed by Sam Raimi, imagines the origins of L. Frank Baum’s beloved wizard character. The movie, which was produced by Joe Roth, was written by Mitchell Kapner and David Lindsay-Abaire.
