FilmOn.TV has started an amazing $100 million television ad campaign in New York and the Tri-State area offering viewers 500 live television channels and remote DVR storage space for free! What consumers can get from the free deal includes all local major networks (ABC, Fox, NBC, and CBS), huge range of American brands like Nickelodeon, MSNBC, ESPN, TMZ Live, Sesame Street and the Wall Street Journal. Other channels in the free deal include celebrity-driven channels and International and Latin content. FilmOn offers tons of other channels, including Disney, sports channels, and interactive content through FilmOn’s Los Angeles channel KILM. The free offer is subsidized with pre-roll and mid-roll commercials.
The campaign, which will include online, print and outdoor ads as well as the television ads, will continue to roll out in the coming weeks and will branch out to 30 other major American market which already freely offer FilmOn.
FilmOn founder and CEO Alki David listed some of the markets FilmOn will be advertising to. “Although FilmOn is a World Wide the platform and is already serving geo-restricted local television in thirty major US markets including New York, New-Jersey, Connecticut, Chicago, Los Angeles, Dallas, Miami, Washington DC, San Francisco and Denver. Boston will be coming online next week and one additional city a week will be added thereafter,” he said. “The FilmOn business model is based on the notion that today the consumer expects to receive content for free. FilmOn is breaking convention but also bringing back the youth to watch TV. Additional services such as expanded DVR and HD viewing carries a premium which a smaller user-group would be willing to pay for.”
David also talked about the lawsuit he’s facing against competitor Aereo’s founder Barry Diller. According to David, Diller is asking consumers to pay for a service that they can get for free.
“Aereo is not a threat. We really tried to get friendly with them and join forces but Barry Diller sued me over a joke!” he said. “They have no content of their own and actually ask the consumer to pay for something that is already freely available. By example, our own white label version Aero.TV is so much better! In Europe and the Middle East FilmOn is already the premiere online TV brand. Our partnership with Lenovo will help us break deep into Asia. Let’s face it Barry should quit while he’s still a little relevant and turn over Aereo.com, which by rights belongs to me anyway!”
