Kate Winslet has been cast as Jeanine Matthews in Summit Entertainment’s upcoming futuristic sci-fi action adventure ‘Divergent.’ The Academy Award-winning actress joins already cast stars Shailene Woodley, Theo James, Zoe Kravitz and Maggie Q.
‘Divergent’ is based on author Veronica Roth’s New York Times best selling 2011 novel of the same, which was the first in a trilogy and was her debut book. The movie, which will be directed by Neil Burger, was written by Vanessa Taylor. Principal photography on the sci-fi romance action movie will begin filming next month in Chicago, and the film will be released on Friday, March 21, 2014.
Set in a future world where people are divided into distinct factions based on their personalities, ‘Divergent’ follows Tris Prior (Woodley), who is warned she is Divergent and will never fit into any one group. When she discovers a conspiracy to destroy all Divergents, she must find out what makes being Divergent so dangerous before it’s too late.
‘Divergent’ is the latest Summit Entertainment film that’s based on material for young adults, after the distribution company released the successful ‘Twilight Saga’ films. Summit’s corporate parent, Lionsgate, released last year’s hit sci-fi action adventure, ‘The Hunger Games,’ the 13th highest-grossing North American release of all time.
