As a longtime fan of Nine Inch Nails and Paramore, how am I just learning about Ilan Rubin’s one-man outfit, The New Regime? Yes, I am a bit shameful to admit this lack of knowledge to you, Shockya readers, but there comes a time when even the “experts” need to admit fault (insert a sarcastic tone). Rubin’s repertoire includes being the drummer for these two bands as well as for Angels & Airwaves. He is also noted as the youngest person to play Woodstock at 11 years old in The Guinness Book of World Records. At this age, my main concern was blending in with other Juicy Couture wearers, not performing in front of thousands. Hats way off to you, Rubin.
The musical mastermind will be releasing his third project “Exhibit A” on May 7th. The upcoming album will be the first installment of Rubin’s Exhibits’ series, which will be compiled of several EPs. Recently, Rubin also announced that he will be rejoining Nine Inch Nails on the drums for their upcoming world tour as well as drumming on Paramore’s self-titled album, which will drop on April 9th. With a full plate of work up ahead, which will hopefully include a Lollapalooza performance, Rubin’s personal project emphasizes his own creative style.
Penciling in and underlining May 7th on my calendar, I have just enough time to catch up on The New Regime’s prior releases, which include “Speak Through The White Noise” and “Coup”, and suggest you do the same. With these albums along with my unwavering Paramore obsession, this summer will be overflowing with Rubin’s music.
