After a string of new wide releases hit it big recently, we could be in for a rather quiet weekend at the box office. The “Scary Movie” franchise is back for round five and even though the third and fourth installments both opened with intakes north of $40 million, “Scary Movie 5” will likely only manage to match “A Haunted House’s” $18 million. This weekend’s second wide release,“42,” is poised to find the middle ground between “Trouble with the Curve” and “Moneyball,” which would give it about $15 million to start.

The rest of the weekend’s top ten belongs to the box office veterans. “Evil Dead” will likely face the dreaded horror genre weekend one to two slashing, but it could keep that drop to about 50%, which would let it post another $13 million for its second weekend out. Should “G.I. Joe: Retaliation” continue on a slower decline than “The Rise of Cobra,” that 48.5% weekend one dip could be cut down to just 43%, which would let it take another $12 million to the bank. Solid earnings for both films, but neither might be good enough for the #3 position if “The Croods” continues to hold on strong. After managing to maintain over 77% of its weekend two profits in weekend three, “The Croods” might only drop 35% from three to four, which would give it a $13.5 million weekend four total, topping both “Evil Dead” and “G.I. Joe.”

Should “Jurassic Park 3D” keep in line with “Titanic 3D,” it’s looking at a pretty minimal weekend one to two decline. Should it also dip just 31%, it’ll get to take another $12.5 million, which would let it sneak ahead of “G.I. Joe” and snag that #5 spot. “Olympus Has Fallen” only lost 28.2% in the shift from weekend one to two, but that number could get bumped up to about 40% this time around, which would give it $6 million and the 7th position on the top ten. If “Tyler Perry’s Temptation: Confessions of a Marriage Counselor” follows in the footsteps of “I Can Do Bad All By Myself,” it’ll see a lesser decline in weekend three, but could still face a 50% cut. Should that be the case and “Oz The Great and Powerful” manage to hold onto 60% of its weekend five profits, the two will swap places, “Temptation” taking #9 with $5 million and “Oz” #8 with just more than that.

Considering “The Host” is saying goodbye to 1,030 theaters, it can also say goodbye to the box office top ten. Thanks to that film’s swift exit, “The Call” gets to enjoy one more weekend of the honor, taking the 10th position with $2 million.
