Dwayne Johnson is seeking justice as principal photography on ‘Hercules: The Thracian Wars’ has begun in Budapest. MGM and Paramount Pictures confirmed the news that ‘X-Men: The Last Stand’ helmer Brett Ratner, who’s directing and producing ‘Hercules,’ started filming the anticipated action adventure.
‘Hercules,’ which also stars Ian McShane, Joseph Fiennes and John Hurt, will be distributed worldwide on July 25, 2014 by Paramount. The film’s television distribution will be handled by MGM.
Based on the graphic novel of the same name, the screenplay for ‘Hercules’ was written by Ryan Condal and Evan Spiliotopoulos. The ensemble film is a revisionist take on the classic myth, and is set in a grounded world where the supernatural doesn’t exist.
MGM and Paramount have released the following synopsis for ‘Hercules’:
Haunted by a sin from his past, Hercules has become a mercenary. Along with five faithful companions, he travels ancient Greece selling his services for gold and using his legendary reputation to intimidate enemies. But when the benevolent ruler of Thrace and his daughter seek Hercules’ help to defeat a savage and terrifying warlord, Hercules finds that in order for good to triumph and justice to prevail… he must again become the hero he once was… he must embrace his own myth… he must be Hercules.
