A quiet man is released from prison, is kicked out of his trailer by his cheating girlfriend and meets many colorful people on the road while hitchhiking to his brother’s pony ranch in Oregon.
Quick to the point: This film is like the lovechild of Salvador Dali and David Lynch. Surrealism ahoy.
The negative: This movie is F-ing weird. Some glowing dot in the sky shows up randomly as he’s walking on a deserted road. There’s static and quick cuts as if he’s watching a videotape. People getting dismembered and throwing up in his face – dude, why aren’t you closing your mouth?! I’m pretty sure they got some real hillbillies for this film, because some of the background actors look like rejects from Deliverance or The Hills Have Eyes.
The positive: This movie is F-ing weird. I liked the scenes with the scientist toting the machine that records dreams on videotape with some horrifying side effects. He was just so casual about the people he suckers into trying it out.
It it all a dream? Is it really happening? I don’t know man! You’ll either love this movie or have nightmares after watching it. I watched it a few days ago and I’m still thinking about it; I’m mostly just disturbed and creeped out.
