Chinese actor Han Geng has been cast in the anticipated sci-fi action adventure, ‘Transformers 4,’ director Michael Bay and Paramount Pictures have jointly announced. The actor and musician, who is one of the most influential entertainers in China, joins already announced stars Mark Wahlberg, Stanley Tucci, Kelsey Grammer, Jack Reynor, Nicola Peltz, Sophia Myles, TJ Miller and Li Bingbing in the fourth installment in the hit series.
The actor “has been a sensation in China and we are happy to have him in our movie,” the director said of Geng, who made his debut in 2005, as part of the group Super Junior. He later released his debut solo album, ‘Geng Xin,’ in 2010. Geng makes his English debut in ‘Transformers 4,’ which Paramount will release in theaters on June 27, 2014.
The news of Geng’s casting comes after Paramount announced in April that it would be filming portions off ‘Transformers 4’ in China. China Movie Channel, under the State Administration of Radio Film and Television (SARFT), will cooperate with Paramount in broad-based support of the production of the film in China. China Movie Channel will also work on selecting the filming sites in the country, theatrical promotion and casting Chinese actors in the film. This is the first time China Movie Channel will work with a western studio in the production of a major motion picture.
‘Transformers 4’ will shoot this summer in multiple locations in the U.S. and China. The film, which was written by Ehren Kruger, will reunite the filmmaking team from the hit franchise, including producers Lorenzo di Bonaventura, Don Murphy, Tom DeSanto and Ian Bryce.
