Some journalists had a crash course in zombie apocalypse survival with the “World War Z” Survival Day media event. The event, which was held at Los Angeles’ Old Zoo, was held to celebrate the Blu-ray/DVD launch of “World War Z,” the action-filled zombie film starring Brad Pitt.
Journalists were able to hone their survival skills with key experts, including survival specialist Sam Sheridan, author of “The Disaster Diaries: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Apocalypse,” “World War Z” actress Daniella Kertesz, who plays Israeli soldier Segen in the film, knife-fighting instructor and Grandmaster martial artist Mark Mikita, chef and foraging coach Bryce Waring from Food Fetish Catering, and “World War Z” senior military technical advisor Freddie Joe Farnsworth.
Sheridan shared important survival tips and how to cope with fear and stress, as well as a survival staple, a bug out bag. Kertesz talked about her experiences working with Pitt in the film, and Mikita demonstrated how to use any object as a weapon. He also helped participants practice their skills with a simulated knife fight.
Waring gave a course on the indigenous wildlife and plants in the area to help the audience forage and hunt for food, and Farnsworth spoke on the reality of training.
