In 2013, humans are attacked by a monstrous race called Kaiju who arrive on Earth via a portal in the Pacific Ocean. When the current militaristic tactics and technology prove to be no use, the Pacific Rim nations begin building Jaegers to get the job done, enormous war machines piloted by two humans tethered to the weapon through a process called drifting. Over the years, the Kaiju become so powerful that the humans have no choice, but to deploy all surviving Jaegers in an effort to end this war once and for all.
