‘Star Wars: Episode VII‘ now has an official date when it will enter our galaxy. The first film in the third ‘Star Wars’ trilogy will open on December 18, 2015 in theaters. Pre-production for the highly anticipated Lucasfilm movie, which serves as the follow-up to ‘Star Wars: Episode IV: Return of the Jedi,’ is currently in full-swing.
Shooting on ‘Star Wars: Episode VII’ is scheduled to begin in spring 2014 at Pinewood Studios. The sequel is being directed by ‘Star Trek’ helmer J.J. Abrams, who wrote the script with Lawrence Kasdan. The scribe returns to the series after he scripted ‘The Empire Strikes Back’ and ‘Return of the Jedi.’ The new entry in the hit series is expected to feature such returning stars Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher. John Williams has also signed on to return to the ‘Star Wars’ universe to write the film’s score.
“We’re very excited to share the official 2015 release date for ‘Star Wars: Episode VII,’ where it will not only anchor the popular holiday filmgoing season but also ensure our extraordinary filmmaking team has the time needed to deliver a sensational picture,” said Alan Horn, chairman of The Walt Disney Studios.
