Gwyneth Paltrow and her British husband Chris Martin have revealed that their 10 year marriage is over.
The estranged couple issued a joint statement via the Hollywood actress’s website in which they described their separation as a ‘Conscious Uncoupling.’
Iron Man star Paltrow, 41, and Coldplay singer Martin, 37, insisted that they remain close and said they will continue to act as co-parents to their children.
The pair are widely regarded as one of showbiz’s most glamorous couples and according to The Times of London they said to be worth an estimated $115million.
They have two children: Apple, 9, and Moses, 7.
Their separation statement was posted on lifestyle website Goop, to which Gwyneth is a contributor.
It was headlined ‘Conscious Uncoupling’ and read as follows:
“It is with hearts full of sadness that we have decided to separate.
“We have been working hard for well over a year, some of it together, some of it separated, to see what might have been possible between us, and we have come to the conclusion that while we love each other very much we will remain separate.
“We are, however, and always will be a family, and in many ways we are closer than we have ever been.
“We are parents first and foremost, to two incredibly wonderful children and we ask for their and our space and privacy to be respected at this difficult time.
“We have always conducted our relationship privately, and we hope that as we consciously uncouple and coparent, we will be able to continue in the same manner.”
The message was signed simply, “Love, Gwyneth & Chris.”
The couple were married in Santa Barbara, California, in December 2003 – two days after Paltrow announced she was expecting her first child with Martin.
Last year they relocated to the wealthy London suburb of Primrose Hill.
Last September Paltrow admitted that she and Martin had gone through “big ups and downs.”
A month later she told Glamour magazine: “It’s hard being married. You go through great times, you go through terrible times.”
