“The Daily Show” 11:30 p.m time slot is getting a new tenant, “The Minority Report with Larry Wilmore.” The show, starring the Emmy-award winning (and “Daily Show” correspondent) Larry Wilmore will take on issues in the news that affect America’s minority population. The show, according to Comedy Central, will “provide a platform to underrepresented voices in comedy and media providing comedy, commentary and a cultural point of view on the news of the day.”
The series is created by Jon Stewart and will be produced by Stewart’s production company, Busboy Productions. Stewart and Wilmore will act as executive producers. The show will air January 2015.
“I’m beyond excited to have this chance to continue my relationships with Comedy Central and the brilliant Jon Stewart,” Wilmore said in a statement. “I love the city of New York and promise to only wear my Laker t-shirts when I’m layering.”
“We are thrilled to be expanding our relationship with Jon Stewart and Busboy Productions, and are looking forward to the world getting to know Larry Wilmore even better. He’s a spectacular talent in front of and behind the camera,” said Michele Ganeless, president of Comedy Central. “‘The Minority Report with Larry Wilmore’ follows in the Comedy Central tradition – bringing new perspectives to the day’s events and breaking ground in the world of late night television.”
“While Larry Wilmore is a brilliant comic and showrunner, this is all just a complicated ruse to get him to move to New York and turn him into a Knicks fan,” said Stewart in a statement.
